Stagey Masks!!

While we are still unable to head into a crammed auditorium many people are looking for ways to express their love of all things musical theatre and what other way than purchasing some stagey masks. Unfortunately the most famous musical theatre mask that Belongs to The Phantom of the Opera doesn’t meet safety standards so I’ve had to look at little further afield!

The Show Must Go On

Most people by now have seen The Show Must Go On T-Shirt but did you know they also now do masks! This is sold through the Theatre support fund and like their t-shirt the proceeds are split between theatrical charities. The mask is just £9.50.

The Grinning Man

The set and the costume designer of The Grinning Man has designed face masks inspired by the show. Once again all profits go to theatrical charities and they are made by freelance costume workers who were unemployed during the pandemic. The mask is £15 and comes in 2 different colours.

Spotty Dog Handmade

Spotty Dog Handmade have a large selection of masks however this stagey one caught my eye. It is £9.99 with £1 from each sale being donated to Acting For Others. They also have a Matilda print one for £8.99.

RedBubble/Etsy

There seems to be loads of sellers on RedBubble and Etsy offering stagey masks. Whilst there are loads of US sellers I have tried to dig out some UK based sellers. My favourites I have found are:

EmmaT99 is donating commission from her sales to Acting for others and other UK independent theatres. She has masks in the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child colours as well as masks with seating plans on for West End and Off West End theatres. They are around £8 – £9.

TheatreLeah – These designs are quirky with Heathers slogans, Into the Woods graphics, Pippin, Little Shop of Horrors and more. Most are around the £10.20 mark.

StageDoorDesigns: These guys have several different Hamilton masks as well as the odd Mean Girls and Dear Evan Hansen. They are around £9 each.

Andrea Kerry – Textile Artist

Andrea Kerry is a friend of mine’s wife, a seamstress by profession and where I brought my mask. I can therefore vouch for the quality of the mask! The masks are only £5 including postage. I went for a musical notes print mask but the designs change frequently depending on what fabric she has in stock. If you order do tell her that Musical Theatre Musings says hi!!

Olivia Mitchell

Olivia has a bit variety of fabrics including Matilda fabric and by her own confession is on the hunt for more stagey fabric! She is selling her masks for £5.50 and £1 from each order goes to charity. She can be reached on twitter at @oliviamitchell or Instagram at @oliviamitche.

David Sutton-Ball

David has been making masks as a way of keeping his agency (David Ball Management) with 60+ clients and production company (David Ball Productions) afloat. He is working daytimes on his company and evenings on masks so do check out his Etsy shop to help support someone who is working in the arts. They are £10 inc p&p, 4 layers with moulded nose strips. Drop him a message on twitter (@davidball1978) for more info.
