The Mill at Sonning – The restaurant

Food at the Mill at Sonning

The Mill at Sonning is a truly stunning venue – totally unique in setting – you can sit in the bar and watch the wheel go round through tumultuous water. It’s mesmerising – I could’ve sat for hours and watched it. Whilst the atmospherically lit bar is relaxing, the restaurant is brighter and welcoming. Outside by the riverside, ducks and dragonflies can be spotted as you watch the river run underneath you.

Gourmet food in plentiful portions is the only way I can describe our 2 course dinner. A generous set menu is included in your ticket price, the buffet is beautiful and the smells hit you as soon as you walk in. The staff are lovely, welcoming and polite – when I couldn’t decide between Slow Braised Beef and Red Wine Pie and Honey Roasted Gammon at the buffet table, they generously gave me a half portion of each. You help yourself to potatoes, sides, and gravy – the selection is wonderful and it’s hard not to leave with your plate spilling over the sides. Everything is made with love and care, down to the little details, everything is as luxurious as possible.

The desserts came to the table, and I ordered Caramelised Apple Crumble with Vanilla Custard, as recommended by the waitress. She steered me correctly – even though I was stuffed to the brim, I had to carry on eating, it was too delicious!

I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone – and it was especially improved by the wonderful show we watched afterwards!
