Trans Performers in Theatre You Need to See

Whilst there is so much hostility in the media about trans individuals, combined with the recent Supreme Court ruling I wanted to use my platform to support trans performers and hopefully amplify the fact that many of us theatre lovers want to see more trans and non-binary talent on the stage.

So here is my list of trans and non-binary performers (in no particular order) that have gripped me!

  1. Allie Daniel (She/Her)

Allie Daniel is currently living way down under the ground as one of the Fates in Hadestown but has also played roles such ensemble/cover Margot in the Regent Park production of Legally Blonde.

2. Mason Alexander Park (They/them/she)

Mason is a non-binary actor who played Hedwig on the Broadway tour and most recently the Emcee in Cabaret Ariel in the Tempest and Margaret in Much Ado About Nothing in the West End.

3.Dylan Mulvaney (She/they)

Dylan recently graced our West End stage for the one night performance of Drew Gasparini’s We Aren’t Kids Anymore. She began sharing her gender transition in 2022 on Tik Tok with an audience now of over 1 million followers. Prior to We Aren’t Kids Anymore they have performed on Broadway and were no stranger to the UK shores having performed their solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

4.Jo Foster (They/Them)

Jo is a non-binary theatre performer who I have had the privilege of seeing perform several times! Most recently they played Oliver in Why Am I So Single a non-binary character who spoke openly about their experience throughout the show. Foster also performed in Just For One Day at the Old Vic, May in & Juliet at The Shaftesbury, Legally Blonde at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Hex at The National Theatre and Rent at Hope Mill Theatre.

5.Alex Thomas-Smith (Them)

Alex has performed in a variety of musical theatre roles including May in & Juliet, Angel in Hope Mill Theatre’s production of Rent, as standby Evan and Jared in Dear Evan Hansen, Tink in Bat Out of Hell. They are about to hit our screens on What It Feels Like For A Girl.

6.Baylie Carson (They/she/he)

Baylie is an Australian non-binary performer who is currently the 1st cover for Janis in Mean Girls in the West End. Previously they played Anne Boleyn is Six and was the first full time cast member to use they/them pronouns in the production. They have also bee in the Australian tour of Bring It On and Jagged Little Pill.

7. B Terry (They/them)

B Terry is a performer who has performed in Burlesque at Manchester Opera House, in Cake on tour, Helga in the West End production of the Kit Kat Club, as well as Bat Out of Hell and more.

8.Freddie Love (They/Them)

Freddie is an American performer who is about to open in Just For One Day in the West End. Their talents don’t stop there and they are a writer, drag artist and opera singer amongst other things.

9. Jordan Broacatch (They/them)

Jordan can currently be seen in the &Juliet tour in the role of May. You would have previously caught them in Any One Can Whistle at Southwark Playhouse or in new musical 42 balloons.

10.Iz Hesketh (She/Her)

Iz are possibly best known for performing in Hollyoaks but on stage she played Margot in Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Legally Blonde which was the first time this part had been played by a trans performer in a professional capacity. They have also played Pythio in Hope Mill Theatre’s production of Head over Heels and cover Angel in their production of Rent.

Please do take the time to support these talented trans and non-binary performers. This isn’t the only way you can show your support for trans and non-binary performs. Please check out the Good Law project which is challenging the Supreme Courts judgment and fighting to prove that the UK is breaching human rights laws.
