Prison Island Maidstone
How to describe Prison Island, Maidstone…. With such a huge amount to do there it may be easier to describe what it isn’t…..and that is anything but dull! On offer there is 23 challenge rooms, adventure golf, shuffleboard and AR darts and I was lucky enough to give most of it a try.
First up was the adventure rooms…all 23 of them to choose from. In each room there is a maximum score and the aim is to finish with the highest score possible. The great thing is that your team of up to 4 people can complete them in what ever order you like and if you so desire you can do the same room over and over again – but you will only be given your most recent score. I also enjoyed that you tackle each room as a team rather than nominating an individual like places such as The Crystal Maze, it felt like there was less pressure on any single individual at any one time and also that you were constantly in the thick of the action.
Outside each room there is a brief description about the type of challenge – physical, mental or skill as well as stress levels and all rooms are timed. Rooms we tried ranged from physical ones such as trying to find lit up buttons in a room filled with medicine balls as we clambered over and under the balls to find the buttons, shooting basketballs into lit hoops, puzzle rooms, a memory test with lit up buttons and the type of games was varied enough to keep interest piqued. The variety also meant that there were naturally games where different team members shone! When booking you get 60 – 120 minutes and you will not run out of challenges in this time! There was a good level of difficulty where some of them were easy to grasp (even if my execution left something to be desired) where as others took time to get our head around (and admittedly a few restarts of that room).
Prison Island also offers a 12 round adventure golf and this course was themed out to the max – with getting past guards, prison bathrooms, escape tunnels out of prison and more the course was brilliantly inventive. Each hole had 2 options- a higher risk but bigger reward route or a more straightforward route which would probably take more goes. Along the way there were loads of photo opportunities and ways to spice the game up such as a wheel to spin to tell you how to play the next round (standing on one leg and using the other end of the club were just 2 of the options. The icing on the cake was the fact that I miraculously won my game (had to drop that in there). This is a great course for families to date nights alike.
Finally in the ‘Rec Room’ there was AR Darts and Shuffleboard complete with themed games from ‘drop the soap’ to ‘death row’ in Shuffleboard. AR Darts is Kent’s answer to Flight Club and once you have finished your game of AR darts or Shuffleboard there are tabletop games to play and a bar to extend your trip if you fancy.
Prison Island Maidstone is literally a one stop shop for entertainment from date nights to family trips out it is perfect for both of these and everything in between. So much care and attention has gone into this with the theming that next time I attend I’ll be in an orange boiler suit to help me fit in more!
