The Room Where It Happens Soho

I was lucky enough to be invited to the press launch of ‘The Room Where It Happens,’ the newest stagey bar in London!

Where: 5 Greek Street, London

When: Thursday & Fridays – 5pm – 2am, Saturday – 12pm – 2am

The idea is that from open until 9pm there is singing waiters and from 9pm to close there is a chance to sing around the piano. I was treated to both parts of the evening. The singing waiters were all very talented and are performers when they aren’t serving us our drinks or singing musical theatre at the bar. We had songs such as ‘Journey To The Past’ from Anastasia, ‘Anthem’ from Chess, ‘She Used to Be Mine’ from Waitress and ‘You’ll Be Back’ from Hamilton. I loved that each of the singing waiters were very unique in their musical theatre style which meant as a punter I got to see a wide range of songs which I loved.

The latter part of the evening was a chance to sing round the piano and we had everything from Little Shop of Horrors through to One Day More From Les Miserables. As much as I loved the singing waiters this part was the highlight of my evening. There was absolutely no judgement – there was clearly some performers in the bar who can sing but there were others who were not from a performance background and everyone was joining in and loving the experience equally. From others I spoke to the raved about how queer friendly the space was and how they had previously attended alone and made friends whilst there!

Throughout the night they were taking requests – either for the singing waiters or for the pianist and we loved that one of our requests was a sing-a-long song!!

There was a great selection of drinks – my favourite however had to be the stagey cocktails (of course) which are priced at £13. This included ‘The Cynthia’ which was a green cocktail with Tequila, kiwi and lime, ‘The Groff & Bailey’ which was was desert in a glass which was baileys, frangelico, creme de cacao and coconut creme as well as gin based drink called The Salonga, a bourbon based cocktail named The Judy, The Patti which is a whisky cocktail and finally The Bernadette which is a vodka and disarano cocktail. There were also 3 mocktails on the menu and a happy hour menu which is 5-8pm on Thursday and Friday and 12-2 and 4-7 on a Saturday which was 2 4 1 selected cocktails and mocktails or other offers including £25 for a bottle of prosecco.

I will 100% be back to The Room Where It Happens and I have already convinced some of my stagey friends to come with me!!
